iPeng 1.0.4 is now released on the App Store as a free upgrade following the somewhat ill-fated 1.0.3 release. Since we did not write an update then, here’s a summary of the new features:
What’s new?
- Music Folder Browsing. You can now browse your folder structure through the respective SqueezeCenter function. (1.0.3)
- Long lists are now sorted in a separate thread. This strongly improves performance during the loading of large libraries. iPeng will now stay reactive and the load time for a 3,000 album library improves from approx. 4 min to approx. 2 min until the cache is fully synchronized. (1.0.3)
- There is now an experimental Wake-On-LAN funtionality that may or may not work. You have to manually set the MAC for this under Settings. (1.0.3 and 1.0.4).
What’s fixed?
- The “The The” bug is fixed (see Known Issues), so you can put your “ignored articles” back in if you used the workaround in 1.0.3. (1.0.4)
- Albums will now fully load and artwork will show up (1.0.4)
- No more crashes due to SqueezeCenter Bug 10242 (empty album records). You might see empty albums now in the list of albums but they should do no harm. (1.0.3 and 1.0.4)
- Artwork scaling in the list should finally work in cases where the server doesn’t scale (e.g. bmp artwork). It’s still strongly discouraged to use embedded .bmp artwork in your files since you will transmit lots and lots of data and fill your iPhone’s flash disk quite a bit. A full scale .bmp Artwork as delivered by iTunes will take around 1 MB, if you’ve got 1,000 albums that makes… (1.0.4)
- Sorting of Album and Artist lists should now be as expected (1.0.3)
We apologize for any inconvenience you may have had with the 1.0.3 version.
Have Fun!

Thanks for 1.0.4 this makes it really good
One question thouh, hoe does one search for artist in lastfm?
Wednesday December 17th, 2008 at 12:00 AM
Radio->Last.fm-Radio->Start a Station->Enter an Artist
Note: If you also have a Menu “Radio->LastFM”, that’s NOT the right one.

Thank you! Great app! Extemely responsive, very nice layout. The add, add next and play icons are out of the way so you can’t make a mistake with them. I’m really, really happy with this app.

This app is fabulous and works as advertised., thanks!
Is there a way to also include some plugins such as album review, biography and lyrics. This would complete the total kick a$$ app for the iphone.

Wonderful app and a great update – i have almost 29,000 songs and I have minimal problems at startup. I was wondering you were planning on Squeeze Network access, so that I could access the network without my Mac/Slimserver being up.
Thanks

There is currently no interface in SqueezeNetwork to do that.
I’ll probably try to provide a hack, but it will not be a good one.
Hopefully, Logitech adds a JSON/RPC interface for this, soon.
You could write them

Great app – one things that I’d like to do is add a song to the currently playing list. Is there are way? Like the ‘+’ on the web interface of squeezecenter
Thanks

At the top of the application there is a ‘play’ button that cycles through ‘play’, ‘add’, ‘add next’. It’s pretty well explainined in the help notes.

Hi,
I think the app is great and worth the price. One request – it appears that album art that is not a standard square (such as a special edition album or where a DVD shape is the album art), it will be stretched to fit the window. Could iPeng display non-square album art with a black background?
Thanks,
Laird

Hi,
I have never been able to have iPeng App (now 1.05) working on either my iPhone or Touch. I have SC7.3.1 and 3 Players, all working fine on their own. iPeng will launch, but immediately crashes. Only stays running if WiFi is off. Can you help? Happy to provide any other diagnostic info you may need.

Hi!
Could you try to enable “forget last server” in the iPeng settings if you can start iPeng while WiFi is off?
Also, could you make sure that all your players have a name in SC, this bug should be fixed but you never know, a player is always supposed to have a name in SC.
Also, you could try to clear the playlist for your players before starting iPeng.
If all this doesn’t help, uninstalling and re-installing iPeng could help.
Generally 1.0.5 is quite stable, it’s been VERY long since I had that ind of a repost the last time (although 1.1 will fix a few errors that have the potential to cause this). So I definitely expect it will be stable once you get the initial crash fixed, I assume iPeng has cached some broken data.
