How it all began…
Then he likes to play this stuff through my Stereo and my streaming clients. Now problems started. Coolio is rather small, even for a penguin. So he really hates to climb up the desk to get access to my PC to browse the music library. I also hate him doing that since it really doesn’t help with working, browsing and all the other stuff I do on my PC. And he also hates to have to run to the stereo to look at the display to browse the music library. And then the browsing itself! 7,200 songs. On a text display. 5 lines at a time! And the remote… Penguin ain’t got fingers, Penguin got wings!
So, not, that’s not the right stuff for my little penguin. So he really gets nervous when Apple brings out this cool new gadget called ‘iPhone’. Coolio is really into gadgets. Always got to have the latest ones. Although… He doesn’t really want a phone, got better phones here. But the User interface! That’s real sleek. You can even use it with a wing! So Coolio get’s himself one of the first iPod Touch’s around. Really excited to use it with his music library…
But then… Ye’know.. He’s using SqueezeCenter and Squeezebox and that’s quite versatile, but the user interfaces… Fine for a PC, but an iTouch, with WINGS? That’s where I enter the story. I mentioned it before: He can REALLY get on one’s nerves! So (sigh) I sit down and start to write a little iPhone/iTouch skin for his SqueezeCenter. Can’t be THAT difficult…
Months later… My fingers start to feel like wings themselves. From coding (nights of it) as well as from testing the stuff, but, hey, this really starts to look cool…

You have done a fantastic job! Please keep an going!
To improve your software I’ve some bugs for you:
If the cover images are “.bmp” a “?” appears instead of the cover image. Squeezecenter show you the cover image. I hope there is a way to correct that, otherwise I have to change a lot of images.
And if you have Albums beginning with “Ö” Like “Ö3 Greatetst Hits…” in you alphabetical bar on the right hand side (don’t know how you call that famous bar) whether an “O” (Albums beginning wit “O” are available in Squeezecenter) nor an “Ö” appears.
Due to the fact that I’m an Austrian it woud be easier for me to communicate in German language (I think thats you mother tongue), I hope everybody (or better the software technician) can understand that.

Hello,
This is a great piece of software for iPhone and music lovers!
In preparation for using iPeng I have upgraded my SlimServer software from version 6.5 to 7 (SqueezeCenter). Now my Squeezebox is prompting me to update its software by holding down the Brightness key on the remote.
But nothing happens when I do that. Is this a known bug in any software? Is there a solution other than downgrading to 6.5 again?
Greetings,
Cornelius

Cornelius,
I recently had to upgrade the firmware on my SB, too, but it worked fine.
I’ve seen reports of similar issues in the slimdevices forum in this thread:
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=41039
It could have to do with firewall settings.
For some people it obviously helped to try the upgrade several times,
with rebooting (turning off power) on the SB in between.
Another possible fix is to revert to an older Version of SC7, I think
this is described in the thread as well.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Joerg

This looks really cool. My only question is: can it control different squeezeboxes. I have 4 in my house. I read the whole manual and I checked all the screenshots but could not find any information on it. Basically it would be great to have the possibility to control each squeezbox individually but also having a way to syncronize them if wanted. All controlled from my ipod touch. Keep the good work up ! Greetings from Switzerland – Rémy

Rémy,
Yes, it can control several squeezeboxes, If more than one is connected to the server, a select control appears on the “Home” page (see http://penguinlovesmusic.de/?page_id=18 , it shows up where the “Aktueller Player: …” string is.).
Syncing doesn’t work, yet, but is planned for the future.

Indeed a very cool piece of software. Thanks for your work.

Wonderful… sexy… cool. Thanks!

Really looking forward to tryin this out. Have to wait until squeeze centre 7 goes gold though so that I can install it on my Qnap.
Just one question… I read somewhere the new squeezebox receiver needs a squeezebox controller to set it up initially. Obviously this is a big drawback as it would be so much better and cost effective to use the itouch.
Is/will the iPeng able to set up the new receiver so that you don’t have to shell out for a controller?
Cheers

Paul,
thanks for the comment. Now the general notion is that as soon as the receiver is officially out someone will write a hack to initialize it using an Ethernet cable. Technically this should not be too difficult since it is just about setting up network parameters.
We will certainly put this up here, since Coolio himself is eager to fill up all the other rooms with SB receivers
Cheers

Love da iPeng! Works great for me, except the Complex List, I can’t see the album covers – it may not be a problem with iPeng though, seems to be something wrong with the ver 7 software not scanning cover art properly, in case anyone knows how to get that working, I will really appreciate it!

Maybe that helps?

If not, try browsing Slimdevices’ beta forum (that’s where the link is leading to). If you are using the SC v7 form Jan. 28th (could fit your reporting date) I would guess it’s the bug mentioned in the link.

Will d/l the new build and try again, keeping my fingers crossed. I noticed that sometime the page (on the mobile Safari) needs to be re-loaded, usually the top of the screen is missing, so I can only see some but not all of the songs, any idea what may cause that problem?
Cheers,
Jaz

I added musicip to the server but can not see it on the ipeng, did I miss it somewhere?

never mind! It took awhile but the musicip playlists did show up under Playlist.

Any news on a “someone will write a hack to initialize it using an Ethernet cable. ” for the SB Receiver yet ? Now that i have iPeng up and running I am desparate to get a whole load of receivers – at £99 it’s a bargain
Saturday February 9th, 2008 at 04:32 PM
Nothing new on the receiver, yet? Is it even available commercially (not as a beta tester)?
Monday February 11th, 2008 at 09:54 PM
Various places are allowing you to pre-order it for 21st Feb. http://www.ripcaster.co.uk/node/282
Monday February 11th, 2008 at 11:22 PM
Thinking about it as the Controller is 802.11 based and not IR as the SB remotes are, it must be used to configure the Receiver via SlimCenter (or another web type interface) over 802.11, so any such ‘hack’ would be relatively strightforward and not require the receiver to be wired up ?
Monday February 11th, 2008 at 11:35 PM
No, Controller and Receiver set up a temporary, dedicated 802.11 connection that is then used to transfer the WPA key from the Controller to the Receiver. So you either have to mimick that protocol by modifying the firmware of an 802.11 transceiver or you have to use the cable.

I just have to say – what a truly wonderful app this is. Got myself an iPod touch the other day and was overjoyed when I found I can control my Squeezebox from it.
Many thanks and keep up the good work.

I have just installed Ipeng and I find it very great, fantastic.
Thanks for this work
I do not arrive to use the volume control on my ipod touch. Is it normal?
Thanks
Sunday April 20th, 2008 at 04:00 PM
When you get to the NowPlaying screen (the one you get to when starting a track or clicking the “coolio”-Button) you have to tap the artwork image to get the volume control.
As opposed to the iPod’s player the volume control is on the screen overlay since there’s less space due to the browser controls.

Hi.
I have installed ipeng and I am now able to browse my library on my iPhone but I am not able to use it as a remote. When I go into artist-album in ipeng and have all the songs on the screen it is impossible to choose any of the songs. The plus-button doesn’t react either. squeezebox plays music it does not show up in “now playing” in ipeng. Do you have any idea whats wrong?
Sunday April 20th, 2008 at 06:55 PM
Thank for this response but when i want to up the volume, the screen go to the “song info detail” screen.
I have the current version of ipeng (0.4) and the version 7.0 of squeezecenter.
Sunday April 20th, 2008 at 06:59 PM
I have just understood, it is just necessary to type the button volume and not to make it slide.
Too Marvellous !!!
Thanks alot and good journey
